Precisely. And, there's the tricky things about mods: a lot of brainpower, collective effort, and resources goes into planning these products. Concessions are made to cost, naturally, but collective planning and experience go a long way toward the final product. Do you really suppose that one guy in a shed is going to improve it in a significant way? It's not just a question of replacing a few parts; it's a question of understanding the product as a whole.
In the post I referred to, one of my favorite comments was that the modified SB2 had a lower noise floor. Now, the Transporter has a chip that absolutely has a lower noise floor. And then, there is this: the more stuff you put in the signal path -- Bybee filters or whatever -- the HIGHER the noise floor will be. In other words, you cannot improve upon the performance of the DAC; you can only degrade it. So, it's a bit funny to hear this guy, who is a vendor and who has an agenda, go on about a lower noise floor. Where are his measurements? Or, for that matter, where's the logic? -- highdudgeon SB3->Lavry DA10->Nuforce 9.02s->Harbeth Monitor 30s/Skylan stands. Simple and satisfying. In a larger room, I would move back to larger speakers, subs, and probably RCS. My larger speakers were, natch, Harbeth Monitor 40s with dual ACI Force subwoofers, a Bel Canto line stage (wonderful device) a Rane EQ system, and measurement gear including calibrated mics, a Presonus audio device, measurement software for the Mac, etc. It's nice being back to simple. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ highdudgeon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2195 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28080 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
