The thing is, even if one refuses to accept that any equipment exists
that will detect the effects of these mods (which is highly implausible
if they actually make a difference) there is still a perfectly good way
to demonstrate that they are worthwhile - just do a blind listening
test and demonstrate that listeners can tell the difference, AND prefer
the modded version blind.  Human ears and brain are a perfectly good
scientific instrument - they just have to be used under controlled
circumstances.  

So all this argument over science having a long way to go, etc.  is
irrelevant to the main point, which is whether or not some or most of
these mods are snake-oil.  That can be decided cleanly and definitively
in a few minutes.  The fact that this is never done says a lot about the
integrity of the industry.
