This morning, I just happened to be clearing out my loft and discovered
some ancient BNC network cable that I don't need. I therefore threw it
all in the bin. This afternoon, I started to think about buying a cable
to let me plug my CD player's digital output into the transporter. I
then suddenly realised what I'd thrown away this morning, so went and
raided my bin to get the BNC network cable back! Boy would I have
kicked myself if the bins had been collected! ;-) I now have the CD
player connected into the transporter with the BNC network cable and
can now use the transporter as an external DAC by selecting BNC Coax
S/PDIF from the Digital Inputs menu. It sounds fantastic - a huge
improvement on the cd player's DAC!

So, the inevitable question - should I be using an old (2-3m!) BNC
network cable in this situation? It clearly works and sounds better,
but would I get better results with different cable? I'm only really
asking out of curiosity as I hardly ever use my cd player these days,
so probably wouldn't be that interested in spending money anyway,
unless it was only a tenner or something!

What do we want? Smoother Analog VU with FLAC!
When do we want it? At the soonest possible convenience to the
hard-working yet undervalued Slim Developers. ;-)
