Funny, but I also got a message from Mr. Darling -- same business about
their wonderful components, custom DBMS, etc. And, this gem:

"Those who want to spend the time to use iTunes and computer based
solutions won't buy a 5-6k system any more than a 15k system. So we
make a top-shelf system that requires no hassles and charge what is fit
for the equipment necessary to do that."

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I personally own some $30k
worth of audio gear. I know people who own less and substantially more
than me who use iTunes as a primary or secondary source. The Squeeze
Box/Transporter are just that flexible -- and so is iTunes.

In a lot of audiophile systems, $5k would be considered more or less
entry-level. Think about it. Good quality monitors, used, can be had
from $1,600-$2,500 or so. You're into perhaps a bit less for a used
amp, and then you need your pre (well, maybe), cables, stands, etc.
Boom, you're at five grand, easy. The next step up, and especially if
you buy some or any new components, really does get you upwards of ten
grand. And we don't use iTunes? Slim Devices products are that good.
Yes, they really, really are, and the touch-screen monitor that has to
sit on a desk or some other place and doesn't allow you to surf your
collection and Internet radio from your chair or sofa is an expensive
and frankly far less practical gadget. Lastly, I just can't believe
that anyone would find iTunes or a Transporter hard to use or "too
slow."

Relax. It's about the music.
