Thanks, clive, tonight I'll see what I can do about small files, although I don't have a webhost set up to make downloads available - maybe PM would work? I'm using a cheapie phono amp on a 9V battery - maybe the battery output dropped at the same time as the needle change? I don't think so though, as the 'heard' volume drop doesn't correspond with 15dB.
