You are scraping the thin layer of corrosion off the plugs when you do that, so I would expect a small effect. Coiling and uncoiling will also damage the structure of the cable and possibly the adhesion of the insulator to the cable as well. Keep doing it over a small area and you get work hardening and that leads to breaks, like when you bend a spoon backwards and forwards many times (I used to write software for the detection of cracks due to this effect).
