If you're not using pre-made cables, I recommend tinning, i.e. coating the wire ends in solder.
It won't corrode, it prevents individual strands from breaking or shorting, and makes a stronger connection than bare wire, or even typical screw-on terminals. I use tinned speaker wire for both sides of my wall-mounted screw-down binding posts - no troubles.
