Don't be disturbed. I've been in many operating rooms and most have
music in the background. My wife abhors heavy metal...but the music is
usually set by the surgeon. With good reason.

Surgeries can be extremely boring from an anesthesia perspective. Once
the patient is under -- and that the the major point -- relatively safe
cases, and even some non-safe cases (open heart) are run almost on auto
pilot. The anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist is there to monitor
the situation, make adjustments as required by the surgeon, intervene
in emergencies, and bring the patient out at the end.

I've been in many operating rooms, interestingly, because my wife has
gone on quite a few medical missions and I've gone along as a handy
man. There's always someone clicking at a laptop in the corner,
reading a book, or something like that. This is usually a second
surgeon, waiting for some part of a procedure, or the anesthesia
person.

Relax. It's about the music.
