Thanks a lot for your replies. It seems that a portable amp would be a good place to start, and the Total Airhead looks nice. Of course, the Headroom Micro Amp and Micro DAC are probably a world of difference, but the change in price is a bit steep. I'm not sure if I should get in-ears or a good full headset, it depends a lot on the price.
