The noise floor is what it is... It's not bad, but comparing it to a
$500 NAD CD player isn't quite fair. CD player electronics are dirt
cheap, so they can easily shoulder the cost of a high-end DAC. SB3's
DAC is very good for the money, and certainly better than any network
player except Transporter. Its also quieter than even some standalone
DACs, as you've found. NAD makes good stuff. However, if you want to go
really high-end, I'm sure a Transporter will smoke it. :)

And of course there is always the option of an external DAC...
