hi desertrat58, I agree with the others suggesting a new PSU (not necessarily a linear one though). On my system, I found the standard SB3 to be a little disappointing, but a new PSU (or two) improved things considerably. I have read others reckon there should be no difference, so its a matter of trying it for yourself.
If you have a SLA battery, try using a LM317 voltage regulator (it may not be ideal but it is cheap).
