You can watch ebay for elpac power supplies. They're cheap enough that it might be worth trying (I bought a few at $5/each plus $9 shipping for the lot-- $8 each is cheap enough that I didn't mind trying). I didn't hear any difference in my system but of course YMMV. Otherwise, I pretty much agree with you. If you want to change the tonal balance of your system, you can try using inguzeq (http://www.inguzaudio.com/).
