One of the benfits of "active" is driver time-alignment - quite tricky
to do with passive x-overs - some complexity is
required...manufacturers often resort to physically stepping the
baffles to do this - I think B&W were the first in the 1970's (was it
the DM1? - the "pregnant" one)

A benefit of DRC is left/right time alignment. So active+DRC = pretty
good alignment of stuff.

When this all gels, one of the surprising effects is that the listening
position becomes rather less important than usual. This seems
counter-intuitive but has certainly been my experience to-date.
