The Orion analog crossover (ASP) is nearly ideally suited to the task. Substituting a DEQX would be a waste of money, IMO. The lower-cost DCX2496 could substitute for the Orion ASP, but the dipole baffle compensation required for the bass is limited by the dynamic range of the programmable filters on that unit. Monte Kay used this configuration for a while and was pleased with it, but ultimately migrated back to the ASP. The only system change that has improved the Orions in my view is the addition of surround channels. I use a Meridian 561 to perform Trifield decoding of CD sources, and this dramatically enhances the sound field on instrumental music. Presently, I augment with rear channels only, but I'm building a center channel similar to the one described by Linkwitz to fully explore the Trifield concept. Ultimately, when I finish my second set of Orions, I will set them up as side channels to experience Trifield 7.0. However, I doubt that I'll retain that arrangement for long due to unacceptably low WAF. -- jhenderson010759 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jhenderson010759's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=385 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31557 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
