It may be argued that coax is better (optical has less loss over a couple of miles, but is harder to get a perfect contact), but I think it's unlikely you'll hear a huge difference. Your current method should be fine for now.
Just make sure you get a well-engineered 75-ohm coax cable, and don't spend more than you spent on the DAC!
