I have been listening to a squeezebox connected to Audio Analogue
monoblocks for the last 6 months. Because of the high sensitivity of my
speakers (93dB JM Lab Electra 906), I had to place 10 dB attenuators
(GoldenJacks) at the inputs of the power amps. What I get is great
sound with minimal components : squeezebox > monoblocks > speakers.
It allowed me to put more money where it is needed : better quality
speakers, amps, interconnects (Van Den Hul D102 Mk3) and speaker cable
(Golden Helix from Mapleshade).
You may have to experiment with different values of attenuation so that
max volume is enough for your listening needs but not enough to blow
your speakers in case anything goes wrong with the squeezebox.
To get "full" volume, I usually adjust it to 80-85 when listening to
classical or quiet jazz, 55-60 for pop-rock and I never find the need
to go lower than 30 at night (which is good because the sound starts
degrading below 30).
