Can't contribute to the SB+ vs Transporter debate since I have never
heard a Transporter. But I guess I do count as one of Patrick's
(nearly) silent SB+ owners who dont post here much.Might be worth
explaining why. FWIW Ive stopped changing front ends now the SB+ beats
anything else Ive had in my system and for me its not really worth
talking about any more. The rest of the system is mostly Tact and Dali
and I might upgrade the power supply on the Tact pre but to be honest
Ive largely lost interest in a hobby that after a certain point seems
to depend as much on psychological delusion as actual science. Nearly
all Hifi reviews essentially come (often in a lot of words) to one of
very few conclusions and consequently fall into a rather restricted
range of categories:
a) Paradigm shift - "this product is really, no honestly, absolutely the
best one ever"
b) ruthlessly revealing - "wont suit everybody depends on quality of
anciliary componets but in the right system" blah blah
c) Sweetest midrange - "yes of course theres no bass but that mid range
is to die for" (usually tube amps)
d) Astonishing change (reserved for strange mods, cables and other
things) - "yes i was a sceptic but the change putting the quantum stone
underneath the power supply was not trivial"

well you get the idea. Ive got off the treadmill by not reading hifi
magazines any more. Its oddly exciting to slow down the upgraditus
almost to a stop. Anyway the point of this verbal detour is the SB+ is
a big improvment on the standard SB in a non trivial way and for many
people it might represent a stopping point on the source end of things.
The SB+, you could say, was the change that finally stopped me being an
"audiophile" in the active magazines-reading-forum-posting sense.
perhaps this is true for some of the other owners. Anyway thats my 2c.
