OK, after some sleep I feel I can face the nay-sayers again. I suspect the SB3 is superbly engineered (we all knew that), but somehow let down by external influences degrading its performance. It remains to find out exactly what is going on, but my money is now on vibrations affecting jitter. (This would also explain why I got a glimpse of this performance earlier when hooking up rather heavy interconnects to the unused analogue outputs. The outputs are directly attached to the circuit board and anything hanging from them will modify the resonance modes of the board.)
I will try to measure the effect (rather than ABX which is a waste of time and effort when you can so clearly hear (even feel) the difference). This harks back to my earlier comments about the need to measure compenents when they are in systems, and in action. Not only on the bench. Note: You may well not have any problems of the nature that I seem to have alleviated, in which case you probably already have very good SB3 performance, and won't benefit from tweaking. -- P Floding ------------------------------------------------------------------------ P Floding's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2932 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32301 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
