Thanks. Guess it works like .zip stuff, depending simply on the data

I am using Winamp Pro 5.3. I was expecting to see built-in FLAC support
based on some FLAC wiki info, but one has to get the FLAC Encoder v1.1.2
by Michael Facquet (who I dutifully paypal'd to show my appreciation). I
misunderstood the setting options for this encoder - while it allows for
adjustment of Compression on a sliding scale from "Fast" to "Best" -with
"Default" inbetween- the resulting FLAC is, as you pointed out, always
lossless. The only thing that does is slow down the compression level
if it's set to "best" because it puts the data through more processing
cycles to achieve more compression, the manual says. Your message
prompted me to read it. :-) At first I thought it mwant that some loss
was introduce dto compress further.
