Konut I was using a cheap S-47 Panasonic DVD player (digital OUT). The VDA*2 was smooth and analog sounding, non-fatiguing but I would guess requires a GOOD transport to sound its best! The anti-jitter feature in Altmann and Benchmark means that you can get really good sound using an inexpensive transport. Benchmark recommends any player that outputs bit perfect. In fact, I bought the Panny based on their recoomendation. Charles Altmann is so confident of his anti-jitter (JISCO) that he says any cheap transport (he uses an old Philips) will suffice, no necessity to buy highend transports. In fact, the Altmann seems to be pretty immune to exotic digital cables (RCA or optical). I bought an expensive RCA digital but can find little if any difference between that and the inexpensive Canare cable!
I think the VDA*2 is a great sounding DAC but requires a better transport if you are to reap its sonic benefits. In fact, I felt it was on par with the more expensive Audio Aero Prima Mark II when used with a good transport. At the end of the day, I think I could live happily with the VDA*2 or Altmann. I went for the Altmann and the rest as they say is history ... -- Denjo ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Denjo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32055 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
