I have securely ripped about 1500 CDs using EAC and a combination of Plextor PX-708A, PX-716A/PX-716SA and Premium drives.
While I've been happy with all the drives, the 708's have had more trouble accurately scraping the data off of troublesome tracks than the other two drives. I would say that the Premium does the best job overall, but there have been times when the 716 has been able to securely rip tracks that the Premium cannot. One of these two is better retrieving music from 'dual-discs' that are CDs on one side and DVDs on the other, but I forget which one. As an aside, I got a significant speed boost when ripping after I installed a SATA card into a PCI Express slot on my mobo and plugged one of my 716-SAs into that. In this config, I have a SATA drive plugged into a header on the mobo, an IDE drive plugged into a header on the mobo, and a third SATA drive plugged into the SATA card. This worked better than having a third drive plugged into the mobo on either the SATA or IDE headers, probably because it's making use of another channel on the mobo.
