No absolutely not!

The cable is different...yes. Three conductors instead of two +/- and
ground. But the real point of balanced operation is the ability to
reject common-mode noise through straightforward cancelling. Put
simply, any noise on both the + and - lines will be summed (in the
receiving equipment, NOT the cable!) to zero as they are anti-phase.

This is rather important in studios with long cable runs (especially
for sensitive low output microphones). It is less so in most domestic
situations.

However, having a balanced output going to an unbalanced input undoes
the whole purpose of balanced connection. If the balanced output sounds
better when connected to an unbalanced input than using the unbalanced
output,,,,, then I would suspect something less than optimal about the
unbalanced output...

By all means experiment. However, your Naim equipment is designed to be
fed from unbalanced sources.

By the way if your Linn Aktiv box has xlr connectors (as mine did) they
are NOT balanced connections - they are unbalanced with a very
unconventional wiring pattern. Just thought I'd mention that.
