And so am I. But I have the idea :) I don't mind to repeat again. I'm sure we both understand it has nothing to do with music reproduction. It's all about mere accessing your digital audio data. With a good optical drive in your player, and good CD you're unlikely to find any difference. With less then good CD you may have readability issues, which still doesn't mean you'll hear it. Once it ripped on HDD you're just fine. As for whether to connect your DAC directly or thorough SB is a totally separate matter. I wouldn't mess with direct connection, and I'm all for taking SPDIF interface as far as possible from the computer box. It's just simpler - less issues to handle. However, it IS possible to connect directly and to have results just as good as from SB or your CD player. You just have to know a lot more about choosing proper hardware, treating RF/EMI interferences, and software (meaning ways to avoid OS to intervene). Pro workstations work this way. -- 325xi simaudio nova cdp >> simaudio moon i-5 >> revel performa m20 via acoustic zen matrix reference ii and acoustic zen satori -planned additions:... >> deq2496 >> lavry da-10 >>...- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 325xi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5661 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32993 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
