I'm afraid that the fact you find SB "not robust" is entirely down to you "tinkering with your computer". Speaking personally I find that USB DAC's suck from a sound quality perspective... that may be down to the implementations rather than anything inherent in the technology though. My experience is limited to an M-Audio (normally very good IMHO) USB DAC.
