I haven't heard the Lavry, but the Musical Fidelity is a very nice sounding unit and I like the tube flavor. I found an Electrocompaniet ECD-1 DAC for $1000 and that's the one I ended up with, very smooth sound, no harshness or stridency at all. I heard the Musical Fidelity several years ago and can't really compare it to the Electro for you, but I remember thinking it was smooth yet detailed at the time.
