Binaural recordings are typically made with a dummy head mic that has
mic capsules in each ear. The idea is that it captures the sound field
exactly as a human sitting in the same position would, including the the
HRTF that affects localization cues.

Binaural recordings are intended for headphone listening. If you
listen to them via speakers without any crosstalk cancelation you will
NOT be impressed. Headphones will deliver a true 3D sound field with
all localization cues intact.
