I received the speakers yesterday night, and first thing I noticed is build quality - considering I wasn't dealing with my $3K Revel monitors, but rather with $350 supposedly toys - I was simply amazed.
I'm on business trip right now, so I didn't have my main system handy for comparison - I had only SB3, AE5, and Sony TX laptop. AE5 had to go on TV cabinet for meanwhile. I had pretty sceptic expectations about the sound, considering both price point and listening conditions, but boy, they did sound good! No, I don't think this system gets any close to my main rig, but in absence of the latter they were perfectly listenable and enjoyable. I listened Naim's New Dawn like 3 times in a row and enjoyed it thoroughly. The sound was quite balanced and relaxed - lows were reasonable, highs were as they should be - I'm used to SS gear, so it didn't sound any "cold" to me - sound was clear and not fatiguing. I didn't even try to evaluate how "real" they sounded, which would be meaningless, considering overall relatively low fidelity of the system. What I found really important is that they not only didn't make me angry, but an opposite - made me smiling and let me enjoy music when my main rig was unavailable. I think this is the best use of Audioengine 5 in audiophile world. I would say AE5 value is terrific, and would highly recommend them. -- 325xi simaudio nova cdp >> simaudio moon i-5 >> revel performa m20 via acoustic zen matrix reference ii and acoustic zen satori -planned additions:... >> deq2496 >> lavry da-10 >>...- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 325xi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5661 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33584 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
