Well the fact that the boost converter is switching makes that
hypothesis questionable (there is still an active switching supply
inside whose radiated noise hasn't been corrected). 

Eliminating the external switcher may improve interference, but could
the original noise have been radiated due to conducted noise from the
stock wall wart? My hypothesis is that a low ripple and capacitance
linear regulated supply helps the internal step up switcher perform
better and radiate less noise.

Just my 2 cents and not to be taken as professional opinion.
