Yes, I do have 13dB attenuators in the signal path. (Why 13dB? Well, I
wanted about 12dB, and the resistors I had coveniently to hand happened
to provide 13dB).

So a more complete description would be:
TP -> balanced analogue outputs -> 13dB attenuators -> ATC SCM100A
active monitors

Normal listening levels are with the TP's volume control around -20dB
to -10dB (depending on mood). That leaves a bit of extra in reserve for
real head-banging sessions.

Edit: You mentioned the risk of frying the monitors. I think that with
ATCs this isn't a danger: the amps are carefully matched to the drive
units, and I'd be surprised if they are not protected to prevent them
doing any damage. Of course, SCM100As are perfectly capable of frying
your ears before they blow up, so it's still advisable to be careful...
