This is a good illustration of the difference between science and
audiophilia. An explanation of ~why~ the foil improves or degrades
performance is more valuable than a guess as to which of those it
could/should/might do.

Crossing the cables at right angles rather than running them parallel
is usually recommended for differing types of signal (i.e. speaker wire
and signal wire) to protect one from the other.
