Now that you've brought this up again..... I've thought for a long time that the next generation of 'surround sound' should work something like this. Think of 20 speakers (or however many...), each designed to reproduce a specific range of sounds (ie. as close to the 'live' experience as possible - speakers designed for horns, vocals, strings, percussion, etc.), each capable of locating itself where it should be relative to the 'listening area'. No more tweaking around trying to reproduce the effect of soundstage! Of course, recording & processing will have to be done differently. How could it get any more realistic, other than actually have the musicians in the room? -- nicketynick Wireless SB3, Denon DRA-F101, Mission M31 loudspeakers WinXP SP2 Slimserver, SMC WBR14g router http://www.last.fm/user/nicketynick/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ nicketynick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1511 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33956 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
