Raising cables off the floor is an interesting concept. It would certainly allow for easier cleaning of the floor. The physical act of raising the cables, ie cables in motion, could invoke Faraday's left or right hand rule (I cannot remember which). Given that the earth's magnetic field is forever present, moving a conductor through a magnetic field will induce a voltage at right angles to the number you first thought of. Could this voltage cause a sound? Who knows...but it is embodied in one of the lesser known laws of audio physics: "Don't use your interconnects as skipping ropes whilst playing Led Zeppelin". On item 2, probably a plausible reason for audible difference. On rule 3. As a Scot, this is the first law of audio physics.
