And thanks for your Super Regulator offer. I'd love to try one of those. What's the voltage output? I was thinking of using it in place of the switching 3.3 V supply.
Yesterday I took the covers off the SB2 to inspect the innards. I must say I'm impressed. The integration on this is incredible. Also, it is obvious that great care was taken to miminize RFI/EMI interference by carefully routing the PCB traces and keeping them very short. The absence of any wires aside from the antenna and display connections is excellent design practice. So, there's an obvious advantage in using SMD components in this regard. It's not just about manufacturing ease. The tiny caps and resistors do allow for shorter signal paths and better noise rejection. Now that I've seen the innards of the SB2, I'm a little weary of the massive modifications done by the well known outfits. The replacement caps often have long leads that are hard to dress on the PCB. I would venture the benefits of these high-performance parts are somewhat negated by the long leads. I am planning to replace the RCA jacks with something better. But even by doing this, you are introducing some extra wire in the signal path. The original jacks are soldered directly on the board... I'm figuring that even a straight transfer to a larger enclosure is going to have sonic benefits, even proper care is taken. For instance, the display PCB can be shielded from the rest of the electronics. This should prevent stray RFI emissions from entering the audio circuits. -- crooner SB2 & SB3 with Custom Linear Power Supply Lite Audio DAC-60 Tube DAC VPI Scout with Benz Micro Glider M2 Audio Research PH3, SP16L and VS110 Vandersteen 2Ce signatures, 2W subwoofer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ crooner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3379 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34291 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
