This thread seems a good place to ask about my own setup--I hope it is
not off-topic:

I have a stock SB3 with stock power supply (wireless connection to
Slimserver) connected via coax cable to an external Upsampler/DAC, a
dCS Purcell/Delius combination. The rest of the system is quite
revealing as well (the Delius goes into a Krell 300FPB amp and Wilson
Watt/Puppy speakers).

I rip my music with EAC into FLAC files, and I have no connection
issues between SB3 and Slimserver.
The Purcell/Delius reclocks all data, so the minor jitter from the SB3
shouldn't matter.
My CD transport is a 1994 Theta Data Universal Transport II--given that
it predates output buffers and reclocking most likely it has much more
jitter than the SB3. It is connected with identical coax cable.

I would like to retire my transport, but on good recordings the Theta
blows away the SB3. In blind A/B tests I can tell with 100% accuracy
the Theta, as it has more clarity in the high end, more open soundstage
and better presence. I am puzzled at this, as everyone seems to agree
that the SB3 is bit correct. Because of the upsampling and reclocking
of the input data, the dCS is very forgiving of the source--it was hard
to distinguish the Theta from a high-end Wadia in blind A/B (which is
why I have not upgraded the Theta).

Two questions:
1. any ideas about why the SB3 lacks? Any suggestions for ways to
address this?
2. any thoughts about whether a Transporter would sound better in this
setup? I would be using the AES/EBU digital output, which might be a
bit of an improvement over RCA coax, but I would not be using the DAC
or any of the analog circuitry.

Thanks for your help.
