Lot's of great bookshelf speakers out there. Proac, Monitor Audio, Totem, B&W, just to name a few... Personally I'm a Proac lover, they just sound like music.. FWIW the older Studio 100 can do bass to about 40hz, not bad for a 6.5 inch woofer.
