Apparently, the three most significant changes you can make are (in no particular order):
The quality of the source material Your listening environment Speakers I too find it difficult to distinguish between 320kbps and lossless, but I've gone lossless as I've got plenty of disc space available. I went from £300 speakers to £800 ones and the difference was immense.
