ok - but still not clear if you are going to a separate location.

If your motivation is, as you say, to get your 2-ch signal away from a
multichannel amp then you can always have both driving the same front
speakers.

Just have a straightforward 2-ch setup driving your fronts: then for
the multi-channel take pre-outs for the two front channels from the
receiver into spare inputs on the 2-ch amp, preferably with a fixed
gain (HT bypass) option, while driving the surround channels directly.

I have this set up with a Denon receiver and it works well - but a
universal remote is recommended to get everything switching correctly
together!
