Phil, there have been sessions I've done where we took the bass direct and also miced the amp. Many times the sound is better by flipping phase on the amp mic.
After a while, you just KNOW what 'out-of-phase' sounds like in the controlroom and fix it with the simple button push. _______________________ I just feel that with all the newer technologies, most young engineers spend way too much time 'perfecting' tracks to the sample and forget about the musical performance.
