My "existing" system is a bit hard to compare to because it has some 16 channels worth of "DACs".
I think you can only truly evaluate how good it is, I was just reporting if it could work or not as a standalone DAC and some of it's issues. I bought mine at a local Guitar Center. I actually bought 5 different ones until I settled on the EMU-0404. If you don't like it you can return it. I bought it for a different purpose.
