the stax headphones are the best in the world, but only when you have the right audio gear associated with these cans. to make your stax cans sing, you must use a good preamp. my first stax cans, the preamp i used was accuphase c-2800. it is a great amp and did well with the stax cans, but very expensive. currently i have a pair of sr-404 w/srm-006tII amp, and my preamp is a Lamm LL2. totally awesome preamp! If you truly want to see how great these stax cans can be, try getting a hold of a Lamm LL2 preamp and see for yourself. oh yeah, it would help if your source is of good quality. i personally like playing sacd with these stax cans. if you are able to try out a Lamm LL2 preamp, get a hold of some amperex PQ 6922 white label either made in the usa or holland. the holland tubes are tops. for the 12au7a tubes, try using amperex 12au7 buggle boys made in holland. with this combo, the Lamm LL2 preamp is extremely supperb. good day! david picarsic
