Yes, I am still streaming at 96 KHz.

It would certainly be possible to resample to 48000 instead, but then a
resampling effect would have to be specified as well, and they looked
complicated:) The choices are polyphase, rabbit, and resample. I am
going to try "resample -ql." The documentation says that gives
approximately 24 bits of precision.

That probably makes more sense than a simple brick-wall filter, then
dropping every other sample in the SB3. I say this because I have
plotted what I think is the sox filter response, and  it is quite flat
from DC to 24 KHz, and has no group-delay, but it does introduce an odd
looking phase variation across the spectrum. I certainly cannot hear
anything wrong, but I wonder if a more sophisticated algorithm would
avoid tampering with the phase? Once again - I don't know.
