Generic power supplies have "built in" world wide compliance.
These supplies can take all countries house hold voltages.
Some of these supplies can be powered by 90vdc.

This benefit the manufactures in many ways.
It save alot of dough and time, for a manufacture to enter its product
in to a given country. Plus have one product to accept any voltage is
icing on the cake.

Even though a manufacture knows he can design a power supply of a
linear design that performs way better than a SMPS, they will never
admit it will be better in sound quality. Ironic, A quality Linear PS,
has less parts and can cost less, but depending on current demands,
They use larger / heavier transformers that can raise the cost beyond a
SMPS.

If you take a look at Spec sheets, for example, The AKM Dac Used in the
Transporter, these specs are measured feeding the chip lab quality
power. Many manufactures tend to use these specs of the chip, as the
specs for thier Product. Meanwhile the design of the curcuit, the
quality of the associated parts, and the quality of the power supply
can have deverse effects in the measurments of the spec. in a end
product.

A good question to ask yourself, would be:
What makes one components sound better than the other?
Take the answer and implement than answer to another component.
What whould you have?

Your findings with your system, by removing the TacT In and out of your
system, I trully agree with you. I have repeated the same results on my
end.

Now if you take a highly refined TacT unit, and do the same test, you
will notice a huge improvment of sound quality with the TacT in place
in bypass. The effect is similar to a Big Ben, if you ever tried one,
between the SB3 and TacT. These result has been duplicated many times
by myself and my customers.
Yes, I know, you would figure less is best... but this is not the
case.

One thing you may want to try, are you using the SPIDF or Toslink
connection? did you compare both?
