If you have it upsampling to 96, then it may theoretically be better to have it output 48, as your DAC should handle this just fine. Have you tried this? (Oh and I agree with your logic on the PSU impact on the Tact, btw. Doubtless some would argue that there is some deficiency somewhere that is clouding the difference, but if you can't hear it, who cares?)
