I recommend vintage solid state if you want a receiver for an office or other secondary system. Look for something manufactured in the mid 70s to early 80s. Sansuis (9090, 7070, etc.) are my favorite, with Pioneer, Marantz, and Yamaha from that same period close behind. You should easily be able to find something for $150 or less, depending on the cosemetic condition. EBay is a good place to look, but keep an eye on local flea markets, pawn shops, thrift stores and you could score a gem for under $30.
