Although I've never used interconnects that short, I too get the impression that balanced usually seems better than unbalanced. At the risk of using audiophool goggledigook, I get the sense there's an "authority" to the sound that's lacking in unbalanced.

While balanced lines are sometimes impedance-matched in pro studio applications, in a domestic setting it's nearly always a case of low output impedance into high input impedance - just the same as unbalanced. And for short runs, it seems unlikely that common mode noise rejection is a significant factor. So I'm left with the hypothesis that perhaps the advantage of balanced might be something to do with grounding. But the more I think about it, the less I feel able to suggest a mechanism. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36550 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
