I have to say ...there is very little difference in sound between cheap and expensive digital ic ,as there is between good and poor ones [note the distiction]...
I've posted a simple design on the diy section thats as good as 90% on the market ..at a fraction of the cost. the only things that can help further are digital pulse transformers and the elimination of signal bounce. There are no true 75ohm rca type plugs and sockets [regardless of the advertising]. If the impedance of the cable is a mismatch the resulting bounced signal creates "echoes" the reciever chip then has to try and retrieve the correct information from the mish mash that arrives.
