Not using the Onkyo speakers though as they aren't too clever, replaced by some Wharfedale Diamonds. Comparing the DAC? Well, in a completely subjective test, the direct digital in was 'heavier' on tonal balance and there was less subtlety overall, like using a smaller palette of tonal colours.
