When I was using the optical out connection into my ROTEL pre/pro there was a 'crack' or a 'pop' between tracks. Using this connection had a better sound than the analog out of the SB, but not as good as the DAC in the ADCOM CD player (HDCD!), so I didn't pursue it, and no longer use the optical out. I knew' it was a synch problem - and had no idea as to how to correct it.
So -- I would agree with Sean -- it looses synch for some reason. For me it was at least consistent - it happened between every track, for you only between certain ones.
