I've built several sets of xlr's for various people all with great results ....you should be able to build a set that will see off all but the most exotic for about $100[£50]....
you need the following to build a 1m set [any longer just increase the length as appropriate] 2 x male xlr 2x female xlr 2x 1m jacket 8mm od approx 5mm id..I use polyeurathane tube 7m of 0.5mm dia 4n [or better] single core silver wire 7m of 0.7mmid ish ptfe sleeve misc heat shrink silver solder sleeve the silver into the ptfe and cut six lengths of 1.1m, take three cores mark them with tape or pen 1 2 3,and at the other end as well ! Then plaite tightly repeat for the second set. slip the three plaited cores into the outer sleeve slide the xlr bodies onto the sleeve and then solder the xlr plugs onto the appropriately trimed cable ends. The sound of the sets I made out performed the commercial mic cable version by a very wide margin....they were also cheaper ! I'm happy to make you a set if you contact me via pm -- zanash Acoustician and builder of interesting cables ------------------------------------------------------------------------ zanash's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12157 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37428
