Before the tread turns to another philosophical discussion about
formats, I want to report my findings.
Of course Sean and other knowledgeable members were right; there should
not be any difference in sound level depending on the source.
Guided by the answers I made some measurements yesterday. At the
beginning the difference was clear 3 to 5 dB louder on the SPL meter
and RTA when the same file was played from the soundcard or player than
from the SB.
What I haven't told you all is that I'm using the Inguz DRC plug-in. I
was assuming that when the filter is set to none the plug-in is not
acting in any way. I was wrong. Even if the EQ module is unchecked in
slimserver, when InguzFlac is checked in file types the sound produced
is lower in level. This explains all but how the plug-in acts. I will
address this issue in another tread
Thanks you all for the guidance and replays.
Chris
